What is an epileptic fit?

An epileptic fit represents the manifestation of the illness: it is set off by the excessive activity of brain cells, with an effect comparable to a sudden electric shock in the brain or in a part of it. The fit starts suddenly and stops more or less rapidly. Between a fit and another fit there are generally no symptoms. For epilepsy to be accurately diagnosed, one must have had at least two fits and the fits themselves need to have more or less a specific duration.

OK something i witnessed "live" in the MRT train yesterday, was in the train on my way to work. Got in the north bound train at City Hall, listening to my iPod as usual, and as the train was moving for a while, i suddenly realised girls beside me were running away.

Saw a man in front of me, should be 30+, office attire, was shaking vigorously, den suddenly he turned back, with a dazed look in his face. Which was the time i moved away, at first i thought he was a mad man who might attack people, he was just standing and shaking non-stop, then he collapsed to the ground, still shaking. It was then it hit upon me, and many others, that he was having trouble. By then a number of people were going up to him giving assistance. Scenes were chaotic too, i saw a guy stuffing a tie into his mouth to prevent him from biting his tongue. A girl were pressing the emergency red button in the train to inform the driver that someone was in trouble, and after a while the train was approaching Dhoby Ghaut station.

It was too late for me to do anything by then, as a group of people lifted him up, wanting to carry him out of the train. but mid way the one lifting the head slipped his hands and banged his head on the floor. Ouch. Then he was carried off to the platform and of course, attracted lots of attention. Then the train resumed, and I was off to work, hoping the poor man will be all right.

Something worth mentioning, when the train stopped at Dhoby Ghaut station. the train staff were at the exact door the button were pressed, waiting for us. Full marks for efficiency i will say.

Happy Halloween Folks! Hope the rainy day doesn't dampen any party plans or celebrations ~ At this point in time the lightning is still flashing non-stop in the sky.

Ok recently more than one of my good friends have wanted to introduce me some new girl friends, and this made me come up with a "checklist" as stated below:

1) Height: Ideally 155 - 165cm. Any shorter is still ok.

2) Weight: Hmm .... 我抱得起来应该就ok, but if i have to put down a figure, i think 最好不要超过50

3) Personality: Outgoing, 最好是叽叽喳喳 type (opposites attract), 可爱, 搞笑, 不做作, 放得开

4) Interests: No particular, but prefer like to sing, then we have one big common interest

5) Others: 贤妻良母, 会煮饭, 喜欢小孩子, 外表看顺眼, 不需要喜欢做家务

That's about all ... Hmm ... 真的有那么难找吗? =(

To sum it up, 我觉得这些女生真的很不错 (排名有分先后) :

Number one on my list has to be her - 卓文萱, 每次看到她我都会觉得 wa .... ....

In terms of appearance, she's a 100 marks straight. And she totally brings out the meaning of the word "sweet". So sweet i might contract diabetes. 唱歌又好听, 赞啦 !!

Second will be 钟欣怡, nowadays harder to see her on TV, she used to co-host 我猜, also 赞, but will have to say she more mature type ... more suitable as i get older. But from the 我猜 days i always liked to see her on it.

Lastly will be her - rather new in the entertainment industry. Her name is 小call. Saw her a couple of times in variety shows, still recall the first time was 康熙来了, and the segment was about "我的好朋友是美女", where the ordinary looking girl is supposed to talk about the differences in treatment from people as compared to the beautiful one. But here's the catch - she's the ordinary looking one, And i was like ... "wtf ... 这样还不够美啊.." Her character is 标准的傻大姐 pattern ... 赞 also. She's rather small size too.

还算可以的生日

I don't normally backdate blog entries, most of the time if i feel like blogging about a certain stuff one day, but failed to do so, most likely the other day i will not feel like blogging about it already. But this will be an exception (since it's already being drafted for more than 2 weeks + already ..)

And so it is, 25 years old. Why are the memories of 15 years old still fresh to me ... 我要你们回来 ...

Birthday celebrations this year started off with a visit to Zoo, a place i last went during my polytechnic days, a count should be around 7 or 8 years ago. Hmm seems different already, much bigger (or is it?) i have to say, or is it because the me of the younger days simply did not comb the entire area. Anyway it really brought back the childhood memories, zoo visit was a must during the primary school excursion days (signing of parent consent forms, buying of food to bring along for the trip), apple even said her last zoo visit was back then, that's decades ago ...

What i found more interesting about the animals had to be the live feeding show, otherwise if i wasn't walking around the zoo, i think i may just fall asleep in the trip. Not that i am complaining, it still is a pretty decent place to go once in a while. Saw the white tigers, which reminded me of the poor zoo worker who was killed by them some time ago. Realised i had not watched the video before, immediately went to find it online when i returned home, hmm not much comments, i think maybe the video is not the complete version, but anyway the full version and the people who happened to be there as the attack happens, they must remember the horrific incident for quite a while. Gross.

Then we headed to turf city for dinner. We walked around, changed our minds a few times, walked around some more, and finally decided on the Chong Pang BBQ Buffet Steamboat (marina south style ...) The food were ok, except for a few oil spurting incidents ... ok this should be the last time we are eating this type of steamboat. After dinner we went to Holland Village Swensen's, as it is operating 24 hours. Cut my first birthday cake of the year - Cookies 'N' Cream Ice Cream cake!

Not bad, except that it still melted slightly despite my fastest attempts to send it home after the celebration ended. Thank you guys and girls !!

Next up was with YYMS. This year was very much shorter compared to our usual activities and celebrations. So short that we all took MRT home and reached home before 11pm. We went to Marina Square, originally wanted to eat at the Yaki Yuki buffet, reached there at 6.30pm but were told the next table is at a shocking 8.45 pm !!! When the waiter told me i was like "What? Did i hear wrongly?" But this is not the first time i encountered actually. Previous time i was there, they also gave a very long reservation time, only to shorten it by more than 50%. I was actually feeling the same thing could happen this time, but turned out we didn't have much to do, so we decided to have dinner already.

We went to Muthu's Curry at Suntec, and barely had our butts warmed our seats, i received call from Yaki Yuki saying table is available. A check on my watch says 7.15 pm, ok lesson learnt - next time it is ok to wait. Decided to cancel the table since we already sat down, and the food were decent too. I think the spiciness is still acceptable, then again why do you want to eat there if you can't even take abit? The waiters couldn't stop rapping, minus the food ordering and confirmation part, i couldn't catch another word they said. Especially the time when we asked him what is this and that when the food were served, really is "catch no ball ..."

Afterwards we went for dessert, and it is then i received 2 presents. A Sony Ericsson bluetooth handsfree set and a wallet, one useful and one not so, at least for now. My current wallet is still decent condition, plus i also don't feel like changing it. But i'll keep it first in case my finance starts to turn for the bad, oh man if that's the case i hope not to use the wallet =(

Ok so you all are wondering what happened on the actual day? Met another person, cut another cake. I guess this entry is getting long enough, so it will be for me to know .. and for you all to find out. Happy 25th Birthday to Me again!

As the title says, I will be turning 25 in officially 22 days time. Where has all the young, carefree days gone? To be frank, i am not too concerned about myself turning 25, just a little turning back and looking at my life so far and wondering if i could have done any better.

So i expect a rather busy month in store for me, normally will be the usual 3 groups of frens celebrating. YYMS - seems like a first time trip to Chinese Garden for birthday celebration, finally, a get-away from the usual celebration in KTV. SIM frens - pending a Zoo outing, originally Zoo outing was supposed to be yesterday, but last minute cancelled, which proved to be a good thing because it was raining the whole of Sunday, phew.

And last is ARK and frens, provided our sailor fren kf can come back in time, which i am rather unsure about, but still hope he can make it, because it has been extremely long since we last caught up with each other. Close to a year, rather shocking. Last time we used to hang out weekly, at the worst case ever possible was at least monthly, now yearly!! But it is good, in a way, because now 2 out of 3 are attached, and it really affected us hanging out. Last time when we frequently hang out were the times all of us were single, but this also means 我已经感受到一点压力 ... bad for me, but still happy for them.

Restaurant City has a new feature, where you can grow your own ingredients, i went to forum to check out for any tips and tricks or any information on it. Came across a site where one was explaining how the seeds work, and people were asking all sorts of questions. So it seems all types of ingredients can be grown from the seeds, you can actually expect ice and water to be harvested. I planted 3 seeds on my first try, got basil, bayleaf and coffee beans. Now planted all 9 seeds, only able to harvest tomorrow, let's see whether it is true that all ingredients in RC can be grown ...

However this one question caught my attention.

One asked: "Will the ingredient market guy steal our ingredients that are planted? Because he is standing just in front of our garden."

This stealing ingredients stuff i believe came from a certain game, wonder if it is Barn Buddy or something, Saw many of my friends playing, but doesn't seem interesting enough.

最幸福的事

Have you wondered for people born in the 1980s, which like me, are by now already in the mid 20s, what to us are considered 最幸福的事? Only recently i have realised that it could all come down to this - your parent's health and well being.

I realised this upon encountering 2 colleagues that are around the same age as me, but their lives could not be more different.

One drives a car, leads a rather luxurious lifestyle, and buys expensive gadgets and stuff every now and then.

One is extreme thrifty, saves on meals, and always rushes to do OT whenever possible, finding ways to earn extra money.

Had a chat with the second person ever, found out that his father had suffered from a stroke and i believe is bed-ridden, resulting in the mother is also unable to go to work as she has to take care of the father. And him being the eldest son, with 2 younger sisters, that certainly added to the load, at least for now.

Which made me conclude that:
1) If your parents are still working, which means helping out in the family, that is considered blessing number 1 - there is still not that much burden for you - the children.

2) If your parents are healthy, that is considered blessing number 2 - because being sick unfortunately means bigger expenses incurred.

Then i look at my parents. I do not have the blessings of (1), as both my parents are already not working anymore. The expenses in the family are now shared among the siblings.

My mother used to be working, until she fell sick early this year and is no longer working, which also slightly deprived me of blessing number (2).

可是不知道为什么, 我觉得已经很满足了.

My parents never quarrel, i will not exactly say they lead a loving lifestyle, but i can see the care and concern between them, especially the time my mother was hospitalised.

Although sometimes i see other people's family, the parents could afford to bring the entire family out for holidays across the world, i wonder why is it that this is not happening to me. But it is not important. Now i hope one day, i can afford to sponsor my parents out for holidays instead. Something i will be proud of doing, when one day i can.

Because i know, 我其实应该算很幸福了.

Nation's 44th Birthday

Nation's 44th Birthday begins 8am .... at the office ~ with work. And i was just as surprised when i see so many other people together in office on a public holiday. GIC really is 没有假期的地方. I find myself keep saying to others "Eh 今天你也要来啊?"

Worked till 6pm. And headed straight to Yixiang's place for 麻将 session. But i had to pick up Liyao from Woodlands first since i'm also around the North area, and if she were to come by herself to Queenstown, she will be super late.

Upon reaching Yx's place, then i realised there are other people, which is Yx's landlord's son. A clean shave head, speaking chinese in extreme slow pace, my first impression of him was sadly to say, i thought he is a little on the "low intellectual" type. Little did i know he turned out to be the joker of the night, and he's a NUS graduate in the banking line, and according to Yx, he is freaking rich. And throughout the night i can tell he has a very good personality, and i also found out the reason why he speak chinese so slowly, is because he is more english educated. 果然是极度严重的 "人不可冒相".

And then we had dinner while watching the NDP, which is already nearing its end by then. After that we set up 2 tables, one for mahjong, and one for 骰子吹牛. I played mahjong first, and luckily they play damn small, and of course as expected, i was the biggest loser - i tink $2 only. I confirm facebook the 神来也麻将 is a fake illusion ...

Played for a couple of hours then the 2 tables switched over, 骰子吹牛 i was rather surprised quite a number of people don't know how to play it. I think not everyone watches "小气大财神" when it was showing years back on SCV, i remember it was my family's favourite programme at 8pm back then.

In the end both tables combined to play 骰子 together, everyone with 4-5 dice each and in total got ard 30+ dice to bluff the others, and everyone is issued a cup where the forfeit is drink alcohol of course. The house got so many types of alcohol, plus orange juice, coke, green tea, it was really fun. I think we played for hours and soon it was already 3+ am. Some had to work the next day and so they left. The remaining people were just right to play mahjong, as i and Liyao went to zzz at Yx's room.

Woke up at 7am, found the people are still playing mahjong, washed up, and left ... for work again.

Yes i went to work again. Same clothes and all, but i got take shower, just never change shirt. Anyway it is still fragrant, thanks to my Glade Sport car perfume. It's really power, no wonder the girls in the commercial want to push the car down the hill, just to get in the guy's car ^^

And i KO in the office in the morning, 实在有够累 ...

Forex Trade Review - July 09

Time for a review after first 2 weeks of live trading, not too satisfied with the results, although there is profit, disappointed the good trades always come when i am not around, really missed out on some good trades that should have made the profit shoot up more.

Started off with USD 1000, and as you can tell from the chart, ended July with USD 1388. Originally planned to withdraw out the profits every time a certain benchmark is reached, now reconsidering if it is the right thing to do. Cos bigger money pool really helps to generate bigger profits.

Now i truly understand the meaning of greed, 原来人真的会越来越贪心的.

我的第一次

我的第一次 ... ... 中4D 啦~~!

And yes, i have just officially struck 4D for the first time ever in my life, and i really do have to admit there are such things called "Beginner's luck". Well at least it applies for me, won Toto the very first time i bought it myself, and now 4D on only my second attempt =) more to come i hope.

No System Entry, no iBet, just Ordinary Entry where you bet on a specific 4-digit number. I had to rub my eyes to confirm did i see wrongly when i was checking the numbers on the papers, even double or triple checked it to make sure there is no "跳字".

And it was quite coincidence, was leaving after breakfast with my colleague Alan when we walked past the Singapore Pools outlet and he said he is going to buy football and 4D. I just followed him in and was checking the football odds for fun. Then i saw the 4D betting slip. 有点心血来潮, so i just took it and decided to buy.

First number was my car plate number of course, come to think of it there really isn't much 4-digit numbers that had any meaning to me at all, this had to be one of them i thought - 3136.

Then came the second number ... which i had no idea yet, but rather magically it just came to me in an instance. Out of nothing i just decided to buy her birthday. Can't explain the feeling that was going through then. March 18 - making it 0318.

I was thinking the number hard to strike, because normally i see winning numbers hardly start with 0, was thinking whether to buy System Entry or iBet, but then decided not to. Most likely wasting more of my money i thought.

$2 Big for Saturday and Sunday, $8 in total. Lucky 8 i was thinking. And the rest ... you know.But only consolation prize lah, i still don't know how much winnings, i asked my dad he said $150, anyone knows? i decided not to collect my winnings first, i want to show her the betting slip.

Lastly, i had luck too with my first official live account trade in Forex on Friday, i said luck because that was a pure gamble.

Life is fragile =(

Life is fragile, and often can catch all of us when we are most unaware ...

Sadded to hear yesterday that Ben's wife has left, will be going to the funeral later on in the evening with all of the colleagues together. The last i heard of her wife was still healthy and perfectly normal, but all of a sudden just went into a coma for around 2 weeks and never woke up again.

I always feel that in these situations, it is always much harder to take if it just happen out of the blue, without any warning signs beforehand. Had lunch with Ben once and he was sharing with me his family life, 2 daughters who went overseas to study and stayed there to work, and he and his wife will stay here and go to either Australia or the States to visit the 2 different daughters when they have the time.

Alan said Ben was telling him few days ago that he felt his wife was not going to make it, and he cried in the office. He even kicked the chair and said how come things became like this, and of course this all happened in our absence. And then came the news yesterday when it was confirmed...

心情愉快

心情愉快, mainly due to the reason i got a few overdue outstanding matters settled all about the same time, which mainly are:

1) FINALLY changed all the oil for my wife, which already have been 6 months overdue from when i was supposed to do it. Now i feel my baby is smooth riding again =)

2) Fixed my desktop PC, up and running now. A new power supply and graphic card did the trick.

3) Funded my live account for Forex. And just in time for the automated EA that was released recently also.

6 months have passed in 2009, so far i have only accomplished 1 goal out of 4 that i have set for the year. The bumps affecting the remaining 3 goals are mainly:

- Piano: I'm putting my "Wants" on lesser priority for now compared to the "Needs" that i know are of higher importance.

- CCNA: Still studying and considering should i take this cert this year or next, which is when i know there is a higher chance i may be changing jobs, current job so far so good =) , if i have to pick a flaw it is that there is really nothing much new stuff to learn already.

- Property Agent: Waiting to kick this off asap, waiting for Angela to get her driving license first.

And oh yes, we visited Baby Chloe on her first month birthday last Saturday. Chubby, cute, basically all babies are the same - simply adorable.

Night at the Museum 2

Met up with SIM group on Friday night, was supposed to meet at PS but the parking was FULL, all 6 floors of the carpark, ended up i can only park at Orchard, at my favourite parking place due to the reasonable price (and i still have no idea the name of the building, only know it is beside Paragon). Passed through 3 ERP when i was making circles around Orchard area =.=", and the traffic was real heavy.

Cineleisure was where we ended up instead. Dinner time was when i received the news of YX's ROM. Hmm i have to admit it came as a real surprise, the girls say she too 冲动 already, June 14 is the day, and it is only like 3 weeks away. Need to take leave ...

After dinner we decided to catch a movie, the timings all so-so, so we changed our venue again to Cathay that is just besides PS (deja vu ...) to try our luck. I recall the last time i watched a movie there was around the time the building just opened, the time when Hark Music was still opened to the public, the time YYMS used to spend our time there and not KTV, sounded like a long time ago.

Movie was at 1.30am, the time we bought the tickets was close to 11pm, so ... 2 hours + to go, how to kill the time? All we needed is Ben & Jerry's shop and a deck of poker cards. Daidee with forfeit of buying ice creams is good enough, especially for the 2 girls. The rule is whoever reaches an accumulative losing card count of 30 first is the loser, and will have to buy a single scoop of ice cream as forfeit. (And we already had ice cream earlier on before the game). Once someone reaches 30, he/she will buy ice cream and everybody's count will reset to 0, then the game continues. Total in the 2 hours we had 3 or 4 scoops, i also forgotten, only remember i and Liyao never lose and Peter was the ... "most generous".

Then as the time approaches our movie starting time, it was also time for Ben & Jerry's to close shop. At that point we counted, me and Peter was just at the 20 cards mark, so we headed up to the cinema area to wait. We decided to continue the game as there was still around 20 minutes more to go, and the forfeit was changed to Nachos for the movie. The girls who were safe from the forfeit, as they both were only around the 10 cards mark, decided to make either one of us, the guys, lose to pay the forfeit, which is also when the game started to get real fun. Because me and Peter was just as determined not to lose the forfeit. After a number of rounds of the most strategic Daidee games anyone can ever play, it was 10 minutes to movie start, and we decided to stop playing (or so the guys thought originally). We counted and Peter was at 29, only one card away from the forfeit. I was much safer. Me and Peter were celebrating that we did not have to pay the forfeit, and so we went for a toilet break before movie starts.

5 minutes to movie start, the girls came out of the toilet, looked at their watches, and "insisted" that we play one more game, they said still got enough time! So we crazily played the last game outside the cinema entrance, and the only way for Peter not to pay the forfeit was for him to win the last game, as he is one card away. After the last battling Daidee game, I won, and ended up Peter losing with only 1 card in his hand! So we had to buy the Nachos, and we really did make it in time for the movie also.

We had so much fun in the process, the forfeit is not important, it just spices up the game. I'm simply glad that i have different friends who really, gave me different types of fun when doing different activities together. 大家友情万岁!

This song really give me a lot of feel, and the main reason is because .... i ever tried to write a song purely out of fun, it was around 2 years back, but i only written a few lines and did not continue. And my pathetic few lines are almost similar to this part:

Come Come Join Me!

I'm back after MIA a while, main reason is because i lent my laptop to my brother, and although i still have a desktop PC, i only prefer to blog using my laptop, also don't know why leh ...

Completed my 3 days Forex course last week, woo definitely enriching stuff learnt, till today i am still figuring out the strategies and studying the market movement, but i am confident once i understood all these and mastered the market, it can only mean one thing. There were games played during the course, more interesting were 2 of them - The "Lose Money Game" and the "Win Money Game". As their names meant, the objective of the games were to lose and win the most amount of money in a stated period of time respectively. We started off with a capital of USD50000, and will trade as we wish. Winner groups for both games will win real cash of $260, and there are two people in a group.

Me and Neo were in a group, and we came in third in the "Lose Money Game". We eventually ended up as runners-up because the original runners-up group did not follow some of the rules exactly, but of course, all of the games were played in good spirit. After we checked the results in terms of the amount they lost, we only lost by a close margin of around few hundred dollars! (In this case, it means they lost slightly more than us by a few hundred dollars, as the objective was to lose money). Argh ...

Later on in the day we had the "Win Money Game", where the end result was a total of around 20 groups, only 2 groups managed to make money, and the profits were in hundreds only. The rest all lost, including us. Lessons were learnt, and here are the basics:

1) What you did when you were trying to lose money, you can't just reverse your actions and expect to win. It will not work. At all.

2) In trading, it is not the quantity of your trades, it is quality that matters.

3) You will fail without a plan and strategy, something i am still working on.

And i was pretty surprised that in the "Win Money Game" we actually had a winning rate of 85% in terms of the number of trades we did, why we still lost money overall is because the losing trades we had are of higher value, so they are still not enough to cover the winning ones. Of course, this is only demo account with fake money. What i like about Forex trading is that you can actually put a "Stop Loss" to your trades, which means you can set the maximum amount you can lose and once that amount hits, the trade will close. We never used this during the game as we wanted to see what will happen. Nevertheless, i just hope my winning rate can be maintained at 80% when i moved on to real money. I will really be satisfied enough.

And lastly i'm also glad i made some new friends in the course, and all share the common goal as i do, all are so eager to make money and we already formed groups to trade together and share our thoughts and lessons learnt during the weekly review lessons. An interesting fact was that in the course all the people my age are guys, there are no young ladies below age of 30. I guess what Ryan, a new friend who is same age as me, told me is correct: "Girls our age is only concerned with one thing, how to package themselves better so as to find a better husband in the future, they are not concerned with how to make money for now." Well, judging from what i see, i have to agree with him. The reason why he joined also is to make more money for marriage, as he said his girlfriend who is older than him is "stressing" him already. Woo.

Happy 27th Birthday to Peter!

Met my SIM mates for dinner on Tuesday, main reason is to celebrate the 2nd eldest person in our group - Mr Peter's 27th birthday! Had dinner at Kuishin-Bo located at Suntec City, the food there is excellent, it is an authentic Japanese Buffet Restaurant with a wide range of food including salmon, seafood and crab, which alone is worth the price because it is real fresh, only bad price is maybe the price is a little steep, weekdays still $40 per head, but once in a while is still ok. Got chance must go again.

We simply had so much laughter during the dinner, as we always have back in the days we were studying together, so much laughter i can sense the lady of a couple sitting just beside us kept listening to our conversation and jokes. And even listened to our comments on the food we took, how every time when we say this dish is good, and we began "snatching" before it runs out, and in the next moment, you see the guy leaving the table and returns with, yes you guessed it, the item we almost started a war because of it, is definitely not a coincidence. And how i can spot everything is because i was sitting at a diagonal angle to them and can actually see their every move rather clearly.

Halfway through dinner when the 27 years old birthday boy began to chat with the 28 years old 大姐 in our group about, coincidentally, applications for HDB flats, because the both of them happened to apply for it around the same time, and the two of them were chatting more and more about the balloting, how it works, the hidden secrets of HDB applications, I and Liyao were looking at each other and said "你会不会觉得我们好像老了, 现在吃饭的话题都是在讲申请房子", we deeply felt it is no secret that time really have passed us.

And a usual group of 5 turns out only 4 could make it for dinner, as our Apple friend is still working. So after dinner i drove them over to her workplace to find her, which we only know is around UE Square near Clarke Quay area. Because we don't know the exact address, and she wasn't picking up our calls, we 兜了几个圈子 and finally decided to just stop by any side of the road that is convenient and not blocking the traffic, and just wait. Then the phone call came, and when it ended, guess where we stopped? ... Directly in front of her company, just only on opposite roads. Wa really 应验了 this saying: "众里寻她千百度, 蓦然回首, 那人却在灯火阑珊处". (sounds weird ...)

And lastly what's a birthday without cutting the birthday cake? But this was going to be no ordinary cake cutting, because we could not go too far off from Apple's workplace in case she had to be called back, our options were limited. So limited till the extent everyone got out and we cut it ... at the rear outside of the car. Liyao suggested cutting it inside the car but i was =.=" with the idea. This really goes down as one of the more memorable places to cut any birthday cake - by the side of the road. The birthday boy was disappointed too, as once the cake was cut, Apple immediately received call to go back office and that was about it for the short birthday celebration. We had the cake and packed up and that was the day.

Time for a "rojak" entry of miscellaneous recent happenings (and seriously my heart goes out to the people who suffered food poisoning from the recent Geylang Serai rojak case, because i have suffered the same fate before, and my "record" was 17 diarrhoea in one and a half day, one of the worst feelings i have felt ... ever)

Firstly, mom's condition. I was rather surprised from the response i received, also gave me a rough idea who are the ones that have been reading my blog. If you are reading this now, and you have shared your kind concerns to me, i would like to say a very big "Thank You!" to you - all of you who know who you are. She actually has been discharged from hospital long ago, and is now recuperating well at home. And now i have picked up the art of giving injections, something i never thought i would one day do, and more so the person to inject was my mom.

I actually kinda wanted to give up on my first attempt, i tried to inject twice but the god damn needle just will not go in. Simply discouraged when she said it starts to hurt already, though she wasn't complaining, which only adds to my guilt. Not even practising with a dummy syringe on a soft toy helps in any way. The human flesh is just ... different. Much tougher, which i should have known. But i can say today i have picked up the art of injection, however this is something i will rather not have to do. And just fyi she needs to be given 2 injections daily, and the medicine is call Fraxiparine.

Work matters - how ironic the last person to join our team, who in fact came on board one week later than me, someone i had to introduce the basics of the job requirements, yes one week old bringing one day old around, has now been promoted to one position that i feel is higher than us, even though it is only for a temporary 4 months. Btw he is also my talk cork buddy because we just sit beside each other. When i saw the email my first action was to sms to congratulate him, only to get a response "Wa shag leh, not promotion lah, more work and same pay." But i seriously wouldn't mind something like that, because i am sure it is going to pay off in the near future.

Although he is 5 years my senior, born in 1979, but i was pretty impressed by his knowledge and working style. And not many people has earned this compliment from me, because till today i have not really been this impressed by anybody, but this is one exceptional case. Someone who has been through a number of different occupations, even was once a pilot, he seems to know everything there is to know, finally i found new inspiration to work towards to!

I have just switched to Singtel MIO, and would strongly recommend it to everyone who is thinking of changing their broadband plans. For just $39.90/month, you get 3Mbps Internet speed, MIO TV that have so many video on demand including free drama and movies, and including your current telephone line in one bundle package, go where to find? Last time my Starhub 6.5Mbps broadband alone already costs me $70++. Finally i am freed from the contract and changed subscribers immediately, now i only keep Starhub for the TV and of course, football. And the person who came my place to setup also damn friendly, he volunteered to help me change my telephone socket "box" for free because it actually came off some time ago, resulting in the cables were being partly exposed all along. And this was something he did not have to do. Full marks for customer service to Singtel .. for now!

And lastly, i am starting on Forex trading, already signed up for the trading courses. I am looking forward to share this with all of you, and i will definitely try to pull as many people as i can into this area, but personally, i want to try it out first, so i can show my "战绩" to everyone when i am sharing, because 我不喜欢纸上谈兵. I am never someone to talk about the "if-only" and the "what-if", i will tell you about the "what you will get".

I believe in something like the 成龙's 霸王 shampoo commercial where he said: "我要告诉你们我用完是这样子, 你们用完也是这样子" **shakes hair**. 我要和我的军师一起作战先, wish me good luck! Loves sports, leisure and traveling - What more can i say? Everything i love is here - i have so many plans but all still unrealised due to the fact i am still finding the right one to realise the plans together. No worries, there will be one day. Accuracy - 10/10

Hardly shows emotions - Not so. I tend to show my emotions on my face rather obviously. Maybe not so much when i have the negative emotions, but definitely for the positive ones as more often i have a smiley face. Accuracy - 4/10

Tends to bottle up feelings - Rather. As mentioned i more of the type to keep things and feelings to myself. Exception was maybe once when i expressed on stage in front of a crowd of people my certain feelings to a certain someone, but even that the feelings were kept for 2 years, till that day when my friends wanted to surprise me by arranging me to go on stage, but never did they realise i would counter surprise them ... Accuracy - 8.5/10

Very choosy, especially in relationships - Wow .. that is a surprise. I will like to publicly declare I will start to lose this characteristic of mine bit by bit with every passing year. It is really not easy to find another girl as 搞怪, 放得开, 懂事 as her anymore. Which also happens to be the same girl as mentioned above in the "Tends to bottle up feelings" section. Accuracy - 8/10 to 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1/10 (which i hope that day will never come ... 不会吧)

歌手阿桑, 去年十月发现自己患了乳癌末期, 在4月6日早上八点半病逝了, 年仅34岁

今天在933听到了这个消息, 就立刻上网去确认

然后也读到了她的身世, 想不到和她的名字一样沧桑

原来她的艺名 "阿桑" 的由来, 是因为当唱片公司的人一开始听到她的歌声时, 觉得非常沧桑感人, 所以就帮她取了这个艺名

她和父母为了躲债, 从国中开始就住在阿姨家, 为了减轻阿姨的负担, 她从小就在家帮忙做手工赚零用钱, 从折塑料花, 包巧克力包装纸, 电子工厂拼凑主机板零件等各式各样的工作都做过

阿桑的个性低调, 自己的私事从不愿让人知道, 曾经是阿桑的唱片宣传, 也是在阿桑走后才知道这件事

Graduation Day .. 毕业了!

27th March 2009 - the day i placed a full stop on my education life. Actually this full stop was placed as early as 18th July last year, and comparing both i was way much happier on that day of my FYP presentation instead. But the school only has 1 graduation ceremony per year, and this means you can wait up till a maximum of 9 months after you completed your studies to attend your graduation ceremony.

Nevertheless this day was certainly a milestone to remember for me. Counting back i have attended a total of 16.5 years of education to get to this point. From PAP to primary to secondary to polytechnic to university .. all certainly left some form of memories for me to recall the days that have passed. Time to share some of the photos:

后记:
I'm happy to say that with this, officially i have reached all the goals i set for myself to accomplish back when i was 16, when i set for myself to reach all of the goals in 10 years time, and i did it with a year to spare. But i can't explain why i wasn't 100% happy. I guess some of it has to do with currently there is nothing much i can look forward to, something i don't like. I'm the type of person who finds motivation in the things i do, and right now there isn't much for me to drive forward. I guess it is time to bring forward the next batch of goals~

And also is my mother's recent hospitalisation, which also explains why she was not present at this ceremony. Worried for her, as this time it seems more serious. She have also lost quite a bit of weight compared to the past. Is it god's practice to let people suffer a setback when everything seems smooth sailing? Because if it is, i am challenging god's will. I am challenging the saying that people when at the peak, will fall down heavily when encountering a setback.

黄靖伦在新加坡的 "绝对Superstar" 毫无任何起眼的表现, 一跑到台湾的 "星光大道" 却变成人气王, 而且成绩也不错, 一出局便立刻出专辑的他, 嗓音应该算偏高, 可是最重要的是, 他让我在 KTV 有更多适合我唱的 key 的歌~!

推荐的歌: 走音, 缺席, 月光

新的可爱教主, 自从杨丞琳变 "半熟" 之后, 就轮到卓文萱了. 一直以来就觉得她的歌很不错, 说到外表人美又可爱, 对我来说是 100% 完美, 可是不知道歌就是少了一点什么. 不过这张专辑有很多可以让她表现出可爱的一面的歌, 然后深情的歌也很赞. 一直在 MTV 台看到她的歌, 可是却一点也不会腻.

破财的几天, main reason is due to ... I accidentally scratched the right side of my car =.= Normal drivers have a higher chance of scratching the left side compared to the right due to the obvious -> we are sitting on the right. We can see and judge better when driving on narrow roads or finding that "just-enough" space between cars. And yet i choose to defy the odds and do the opposite. It happened between both sides of the walls. Or more specifically, driving down a one car-size down slope at the multi storey carpark. Actually i went too fast also, partly my own fault, and its purely scratching against the wall, no dents, but the impact was great enough to shake you around and ya, let the workshop earn money. Although i haven't sent it there yet. thought i should "accumulate" (touch wood, hopefully not, of course) more "incidents" before giving a makeover all over. 我的钱 ...

Recently the topics discussing with colleagues are about the slumping economy. AGAIN, more $ fly away. Although luckily i am not really affected by it for now. I checked for fun the prices for new condos that are coming up, cos there are a few, and i kinda expected it to be lower given the situations now. But no, 还是这么贵! Pretty depressed by it. But currently i am still rather blur on the whole house purchasing thing, maybe when i have stepped one leg into the property business, I can have a better idea. There must be a way out. 我的钱 ... 请你只认识 "加" 和 "乘" 吧 ...

On a lighter note, finally received my graduation ceremony letter. 27 March is the day, although i was surprised it is held at 10am. 也太早一点了吧.

According to a survey, close to 80% of women are willing to give up anything for a perfect Valentine's Day. It seems women values V-day more than what we originally thought of, and even to an extent that women are willing to give up a month's sex in exchange for the perfect V-day any woman can possibly have.

I listened, thought about it, and wondered if a woman should ever give up a month's sex, there would surely be no men around to even give her a perfect V-day in the first place.

保济丸 .. My Savior

Had my first taste of the night shift this week, when going to work was at 10+ pm till the following morning, overall was much more relaxing and work is at a slower pace compared to the day, now i understand why people like working the night shift back at my ex-company..

And this was a bad week for my stomach. Don't know what did i eat wrong to make my stomach this upset, can't recall eating anything different or special too, but that didn't stop me from trying some of the top recommended food the seniors in my company brought me to for breakfast after work. Waterloo fishball noodles (queue time ard 20-30 mins), now temporarily located at Rochor Road, should be due to some renovation, and Geylang Lor 24A prawn noodles, which technically speaking, was supposed to be my area, but when they ask me "你应该知道 Lor 24A 的虾面在哪里 hor?", i had to give them the "Huh 虾 ... 面? 24A?" Cos i not particular about food one ... but both are good. Large portions with more than decent ingredients, not bad at all. Recommended by me too.

Really enjoy chatting with the seniors, total 3 in the department, age ard 40+, but overall still pretty updated with the latest stuff going ard, should be due to their children, enjoy listening to their experiences and stories of their younger times. One of them was even in the first batch to be enlisted into National Service in the old days. I also don't know why but i just can click with fatherly figures.

Recently been listening to 石欣卉 and Kelly Poon new songs, both really got standard in their different ways, 石欣卉 got power, Kelly have the perfect technique that is just right, and in my opinion, she is much better than 孙燕姿 in terms of singing, only good point about 孙燕姿 is her voice have more 辨识度, which definitely is more important for singers. 因为会唱歌的人太多了...

But you can give me 石欣卉 anytime, when she just started taking part in the Superstar contest i already fancy her style and power, she has the kind of charm that is dazzling, even when she was just a contestant, 可以自己站出来而且稳得住局面, 赞~

I think all children are the same, first time see unfamiliar people, keep quiet and almost scared of you. Which was years ago. Now they jump straight on to me, and when i say ON, i mean, ON my front, back, and shoulders. Even directly on an unsuspecting me in the living room watching TV. Piggy backs and sitting on the shoulders for rides were aplenty. Children really live up to the saying “一次生, 两次熟". But they are a bunch of real cuties.大嫂 says he looks like me when i was a kid, when she saw my old photos. 这样以后肯定是大帅哥, 前途无量, 前途一片美好的啦, haha (omg...)

If anyone had told me i will reach my first major goal 10 days into year 2009, i will reply them "No way, you are out of your mind." But madness is what certainly hit me. And the reason for all the madness? Introducing my first wife! Mitsubishi Lancer 1.6 GLX Sports

She is a manual baby, and yes i hear you say, much more troublesome on the road. Has been more than 2 years ago since i last touched a manual baby, and that was my driving test. Since then the only baby i have driven is a Nissan March (Auto). Still recalling the first time i drove an auto baby and i was surprised how easy it was to move it, really the type for lazy drivers, but more suitable for me i guess.

It is really a case of living a childhood dream. Loving cars really started since i was a kid. Remember my favourite toys back in the days were those cars where you can pull them back, and once you let go, the mechanisms will push the cars forward. But at the end of the day, it is all down to only one important thing - convenience. And how important Angela reminded me that a car should not be a burden to you, there are many ways it can help you actually. Which is something i always have in mind, and is also a goal i set for myself to start this year. But somehow, now is really not the right time, as property market is bad now. Hopefully it will start to pick up by the time she gets her license, which is expected around June, let us all hope the economy is recovering by then so we can start together.

And before the photos were taken, I had just washed and waxed the whole of it. Washing car is a small case, but waxing is not easy. Luckily it only has to be done monthly. And my first time washing, i ended up only a little better compared to swimming. Lastly, this is one wife i could not promise a vow to have each other till life's end. It is time to up the stakes and head towards the Audi series one day!

Spring cleaning day

Today was spring cleaning day to get ready for Chinese New Year, and basically, throw and reorganisation were the themes for this year. A detailed search revealed there are so many things i do not need anymore, items include tons of Playstation 1 games, certain school stuffs that were not worth keeping, and some pirated CDs way from the past. Only now i seriously realised i had THIS MUCH of games, some really remind me of the past, 真的可以说是玩它们长大的...

After a day of tidying and cleaning, when i looked back again at night, can't help but having a sense of accomplishment. Things were certainly tidier and neater, even freed out an entire area of my room for more space. Maybe now i won't knock my legs around so much anymore..

And lastly i started on the promise to give my home a change of furniture. Went Novena Furniture to get a new set of 3 + 2 seater Vinyl Leather Sofa Set and a glass coffee table, both for the living room. This time round sister paid more for it, and we already planned on the next few items to get, but won't be in time for the new year.

And by the way, for people planning to get furniture and are thinking which furniture brand is the best, like me recently, I personally feel finding comments on the Internet is really a waste of time. There are no furniture brands out there that have no negative comments, either the delivery or the quality of the goods, you find people complaining, in a way or another. Maybe some bad comments are left by the people from brands who are inferior, so as to hopefully convince people not to buy from the brands anymore, you never know ...

My recommendation? Ask from relatives. Or just pray that you are not the unlucky one ... And make sure there is some clause stating that replacement can be done if you find any flaws in your delivered goods. Novena Furniture is quite good, as in the furniture i saw that were on display. Lastly i certainly no IKEA fan, nothing against them, but i just don't really like woody items and DIY, i prefer to pay more to get the ready stuff.

Windy Singapore

Recently the weather is very windy, no kidding, things in my living room are getting blown around (as i live on the highest floor in my area, and surroundings there are no taller flats or obstacles). And i can hear the sound of the wind blowing on my windows. Even more so at night. Don't recall the last time singapore was so windy, but this type of weather is the best, hope it can last as long as possible ...

Picking up more new things on the new job everyday, and i would say everything has been so far so good. It has been the different exposure i'm looking for all along. Hopefully with the experience, it would benefit me when finding jobs in the government or banking sectors again in the future. Come on Capital Towers, i'm waiting, one day we will meet, i promise. How the seniors (close to 20 years, almost my father's age) used to share with me how much they love the working place when it was situated there in the past. They always loved coming to work and would hide their MCs. It was the nicest scenery you can ever have, and the place overall was just impressive. Listen until my heart itches. But they said now over here at Bishan not too bad either, and i have to agree, in terms of accessibility and food. Hopefully one day i will get my dream location for work- either Raffles Place or Tanjong Pagar, that would be perfect! I will even sign a life bond haha ...

Billionaires committing suicides

What the ... The global financial crisis seems to have taken its toll on even the richest around. Even those on Forbes' Richest 100 list wasn't spared either. Simply shocking. Imagine living your entire life in luxury, and realising that everything have been lost overnight. And not just losing your wealth, what follows next is a big deep pool of debts. Must not be easy to swallow all of these down.

But makes me wonder how can things get so bad till you end up taking your own life, is it not a case where you can declare bankruptcy and serve up a jail sentence or something? And at the time when you have all this wealth, did it not came across you that one day you could lose it all? I guess i will never ever find out the answers, because the money we are talking about here could take me an entire life and still not reaching it ....

Singaporean removed from SIA flight after 'bomb' joke

A Singaporean woman was removed from a Singapore Airlines (SIA) flight in Taipei on Tuesday, after she made a joke of carrying a bomb in her hand luggage.

During the incident, Ms Wu was being assisted by an air stewardess to load her hand luggage into the overhead compartment on flight SQ 877, which was bound for Singapore.

The stewardess asked Ms Wu why her luggage felt so heavy, and the latter jokingly responded that it contained a bomb.

Ms Wu was immediately asked to leave the flight and questioned by airport police, causing her to miss the flight. No explosives were found in Ms Wu's luggage, which was removed from the plane and put through a thorough security check.

According to Ms Wu, however, the word "bomb" was first mentioned by the air stewardess. In a television interview with Taiwanese media, she said the air stewardess who was helping her with the heavy luggage casually asked if it contained a bomb. Taking it as a joke, Ms Wu replied that it was, leading to her removal from the flight.

Campus Superstar 2009

Watched campus superstar preview concert on Channel U last night, really feel nowadays the youngsters really different from what we were back in the days (hey i remember people telling me the same back then ...)

This season they have allowed our Malay friend to take part in the competition, something that i still have doubts about. The pronunciation was bad and not really suitable to sing chinese songs. I think it was “被风吹过的夏天" and after listening i was like "Huhhh ... you mean like this also can in...". By the way i'm not blaming him or anything, totally not his fault, but i feel there are similar competitions held at our neighbour Suria channels he can try his luck at .... But then again the judges are always looking for something different, my views are just that of a normal audience, so far - BAD ...

First week at new work

My first week at GIC, rather impressed by the overall environment, and in all, a good first week. I was rather expecting to see more people though (there's only about 20) when i pushed open the door for the first time, but as i later found out, there's still an entire floor of colleagues on the floor above us (phew). Our floor has the tightest security in the building, even when you need the lift to get to us, you need to scan a card in order to activate the floor button, then you can press our floor number.

And when i accessed my personal workstation, everything feels the same. So i thought to myself to test out whether can surf Internet. To my horror, NO! I was feeling "what the ..., only restricted to private Intranet ... " But i remember seeing a guy surfing the Net when i was being introduced around the office, hmm ... and as i later found out too, there's a "crack" for this, but guess i shouldn't ask this during my first week. Not yet. Luckily they have radio though, at least something.

About security measures, i have yet to work for any companies that value security this tight, but this should be the tightest as you can get. Every few steps in my office is a CCTV camera above your head, fingerprint biometric to open doors, the most kiasu one is 3 doors to access an area, all 3 doors have to scan fingerprint to open, no cards or anything else. The poor chap who showed me how to use had failed a few times just to get the door to open. And also, matrix-type drawers you can push around where access to compartments are hidden behind by other drawers. I heard they going to improve further soon, or rather, kiasu further ...

2008 - Year in Review

Ok everyone barely another 23 hours to a brand new year! Hope everyone can have a fun time awaiting the new year. Now that another year is approaching, it is time to make new resolutions, and certainly a time to do some reflection. Can you all remember all the best and worst moments of 2008? I'm sure everyone will be different.

Here's my recap of the year 2008 (the "most" moments) ******drumrolls******:

Happiest moment - Friday, 18 July. (Surely nothing beats this day, by a mile. At 9.55pm, stepped out of school door, took a cab down to geylang for No signboard seafood, went KTV till 6am, got home, washed up, took a nap, woke up and shouted "我毕业了!")

Exciting moment - Holland vs Russia at the Euro 08. Holland was the in-form team at that moment, Russia were the underdogs. My largest ever bet (and my last) of $1000 on Holland to win, Russia leading 2-1 at 85th min, 5 more minutes to the end. I thought this time $ gone already .... .... Who knows in the end never lose bet, haha ....

Best movie - Iron Man

Best anime movie - A contest between "Kung Fu Panda" and "Horton" (the elephant, if you remember ..) I know my choice of Horton is quite debatable, but i seriously don't know why no one fanices the elephant ... (No one understands ... )

Worst movie - Definitely "The Day the Earth Stood Still" - I think this choice even more unfair, but this certainly is up there with the worst lot ever. (The only reason why i said unfair was because it was shown recently and i still have a clear memory how bad it was, and i clearly remember "Number 23" was shown last year ... )

Prettiest babe - Kanny Theng (For sure)

Luckiest Moment - John Terry missing the supposed-to-be-European-Cup-winning penalty in the shootout against my most beloved Man U. (I already had my finger on the remote power button and was so close to pressing it the moment i saw the keeper diving the wrong way ..)

Laziest Moment - 16 June - 27 June. My high-key in camp training

Eat, Sleep, and PSP (and repeating the cycle) the most moment - As above

I realised there wasn't any bad or sad moments i can recall that were bad enough to be mentioned, except maybe a few minor hiccups faced along the year. Does this indicate that 2008 has been a good year for me? Trust me, 2009 is going to be different, very very different, and even better.

Hi 大家好, 今天是我在UMC 的最后一天, 短短的两年三個月, 所学到的知识和宝贵的人与人相处之道, 却一点也不少。

还记得一开始在这里的时候, 还很不习惯IT 的用词都使用中文, 让第一次踏入正式工作的我捏了一把冷汗, 可是却发觉现在的我, 在聊 IT 的事情时, 使用的中文已经比英文还多, 有时还会被朋友问, 你到底在说什么啊?

我相信一個人的学习路程是永無止境的。我得走的路还很长, 我会记得所有在这里学的一切, 也希望它会在我以后的学习生涯上扮演很重要的角色。

Goodbye UMC

Official last day of work at UMC today, it's a rather weird feeling when you do everything for the last time today, e.g. taking the bus from Pasir Ris Interchange, having lunch in company, even using the toilet, you know this is the last time you use the toilet in the company. An unexplainable feeling.

A taiwanese company, communication mostly in chinese, which made me decided to write my farewell email in chinese to everyone letting them know today is my last. After sending the mail, the first 2 calls i got in 5 mins were "哇, 你的华语很好 leh". Well abit unexpected comment, but interestingly enough. After that everyone seems to be surprised by my chinese standard. I even had to explain to people i used to take higher chinese back in secondary school, when some wanted to know my chinese grades back in school days =.=" And brenda said next time will find me when her daughter needs chinese tuition.

To receive so many people's wishes today is surely the best way to leave. All the comments ranging from "终于脱离苦海了" - which i have no answer to, as I find it sensitive to comment anything, to "真幸运" - where i slowly found out some people are also planning other options, and to my amazement, as early as mid Jan. But the best and satisfying comment i received was people telling me that to find a good job in the economy situation right now speaks for itself - you are good. I just feel i'm lucky enough, and told them it was all in the plans - bad or good economy.

Eve of Christmas, normally the time when friends and families should gather together and enjoy the Christmas spirit - the carols, exchanging of presents, good food, snow - something that you'll never get in singapore. GREAT. What matters most is everyone having a peaceful day during this festive season, i think that's why it is called 平安夜 ~

Today sent Fusen back to HK at airport, on leave these few days and since i got nothing much in the early afternoon, so met him for lunch at T2. Also marks the last time i will be seeing him till we meet again. Monday marks the last time i will be seeing some of my colleagues too, since friday marks my last day and many people will be on leave to enjoy the long weekend ~

I must have answered the same questions at least 20 times when i went around signing my resignation "clearance" form, something close to what we have to do back in army days where we go around getting signatures from people and they will sign only if they checked we don't own them anything. Once all signatures are "collected", you are free. I feel kinda sad when i removed my nameboard from my cubicle, the nameboard considered good quality, thought i can put it up on my room door or something lol ~ why have to return .....

KL & Genting 091208 - 121208

Back from KL and Genting, was my first time to KL too, also marks ARK's first overseas trip together after friends for more than 10 years already. I certainly hope the next one won't be another 10 year's time, its hard to find a right time when everyone is able to make it, with one still studying, one sailing on board for periods of time, and one working (should be the most free one actually - Me). Well we actually discussed where to go for the next trip already, but seems everyone has different opinions - Hong Kong and Korea (K went before), Japan (no one has comment), Taiwan (2 went before, but certainly don't mind going again, at least for me). Ok lets see how it turns out.

Well KL, hmm not much to comment on the place, except maybe bad traffic. But should be the same for the whole of Malaysia i guess, haha. However i did come across something interesting:

Has anyone been to this "special" toilet? Why so expensive? Really have those machines that will auto spray water and help you clean your .... ? And really will people be comfortable with that too? A check with my malaysian colleagues, nobody knows. Well if you happen to know the reason for this toilet, i'm waiting ...

How we feel

Genting - nothing much changed since i last went there one year ago (Oct 07). Finally won $ at the casinos this time. Starworld casino is a no-go already, and so was the game "Three Pictures". When you play "Three Pictures" and ended up getting a 20, 20, 21, 20, you know you have to switch to Blackjack. ("Three Pictures" is a game where you have three cards, add the numbers together, and victory is determined by the value of your last digit. Bigger ones win of course, and you "fight" with the dealer). 20, 20, 21, 20 for 4 straight games means a 0, 0, 1, 0, where yes, almost any other number is bigger. Lost RM300 first day.

Changed to Monte Carlo casino, much smaller but suits me better. Changed to Blackjack and luckily, so did my fortunes. There are some uncles out there who really have the skills, so tag along with them is no problem. I don't tag along with female players, because i find that they go along with their instinct too often, not good for casino. Overturned to RM500 winnings overall. Phew, but still not enough money for the PS3 i targeted to win back ...

Sign offer letter day

Today went to sign offer letter, impressed by the attitude of the receptionist. She has the super business English accent, and a very soft spoken voice tone. I remember when i went for interview the first time, she even wished me good luck. Today when I told her I was scheduled to sign offer letter, the first thing she said was "Welcome to join us!" And how she would always request you to take a seat first while she check out which floor to go and who to look for. I believe this kind of people would be best suitable to manage the whole company of 40+ floors - professional and put a smile on everybody's faces.

Job search is over, got the confirmation already. Was considering the last 2 offers till the very last minute, both has its pros and cons, wasn't an easy decision to make at all, but eventually we have to make one, so here it is:

Government of Singapore Investment Corporation (GIC), head office at Tanjong Pagar, was deeply inpressed by the head office when i went over for interview. It is almost my ideal office place, but too bad, i will be working at the data center at Bishan, right next to Bishan MRT, so not too bad either. Simply looking forward.

Saying this, a new working place means leaving your current one. Tendered official resignation for the first time in my life on friday, certainly a milestone in my life! haha, no doubt it is only a small one. Well everything seems to go according to plan, told boss last time i should leave at year end - last day is 26 Dec. The offer after they adjusted when i got my degree was ... way way way ... below my expectations, which is why i told boss i should be out of here. A memorable 2 years and 3 months here, my first full time job, certainly have many memorable experiences and lessons learnt, should come up an entry of my years here when i have the time.

Since i work in a company size of around 1600 people, and 50% are females, there can be quite a debate among the males when we spot a female worth making us turn our heads. And yes, "One man's meat is another man's poison" certainly applies here. Everyone has different views, e.g. Fusen prefers the skinny types, I prefer the cute types, and not so much prefer the skinny types. Anyway i have been asked this question so many times during my time here, and so, here's my answer (no names will be mentioned):

Finally someone who can make me and Fusen agree on, first time i saw her and i already said: "终于有一个来了". But don't really have the chance to know her also, only mere conversation was when she was just a new hire, needed some help with some of her IT stuff and asked me how to spell a word. Just like this. The End...

back blogging, oh man i start to feel i may not exactly be the type to keep a blog, sometimes i'm too busy i simply forget about it. Anyway let me recall what exactly happened for the last whole week:

Job hunt still going on, i realise for most of the applications i sent, the closing date for the applications are not nearing yet. Could this be the reason why i did not get a single call yet? generally do employers wait till closing date is up, before they review all the potential candidates and arrange for interview? or will they normally start to interview candidates as they receive? now the whole world economy affected, oh man ... really not a good time to find jobs, but i will keep trying and sending and waiting ...

Retrenchment in many MNCs in singapore seems to be taking place now, according to today's papers, and mine wasn't spared either. I see employees coming to work, mind thinking this should be just like any normal day, but aha, they least expect to receive the news that they are laid off, and you have to leave RIGHT NOW also, not even at the end of the day. Well, if fusen's gossip with HR are to be trusted, one particular employee certainly deserved it. If you are really earning this big amount of $, please do work. I see her as someone who simply does not wish to take on any responsibilities at work. I simply can't believe it when fusen told me how much is her salary.

And with all due respect to HR personnel all over, please explain "HOW THE HELL CAN SOMEONE EARN SO MUCH JUST DOING ADMIN WORK !" I expected her to be the one to get the boot, although i didn't expect so fast. In the morning when discussions with her did not go well, i was thinking "it's ok, cos next week i wouldn't have to discuss this with you already." She left at noon.

The question in my previous post was because when i first heard the new songs from Jay's latest album, this song particularly stood out for me. I remember the title was "失落非主流", but due to unknown reasons, when i want to find the song, i realise the title became "说好的幸福呢". The new title has lesser class compared to the old one, although i don't know what the old title has got to do with the song. No link at all if you hear the song. But anyway, as long as it's a good song, the title is of lesser importance.

Downtown East Chalet

Last weekend was chalet weekend at Downtown East, was a funny chalet that made us found new jokes to laugh about each other (will go into detail later). Wa, there is quite the place to book your chalet compared to just last year, when the shopping centre wasn't fully opened yet, now it has bowling, cinema, arcade, K-Box, and quite a number of eateries, pretty happening.

This chalet also marks the first time we played bowling, and cycling as a group together. The prev cycling experience was with apple and yx only. Apple's "tiger woods" style of rolling the bowling ball was the first time i have seen anyone bowl like this, and i feel kinda bad when our bicycles collided in a small accident, i expected her to stop, cos i was going at a rather fast speed, but she didn't, and it was too late when i eventually did stop. I thought she was hurt rather badly, but luckily, there wasn't a cut or bruise or anything like that on her. Phew ~

K back to the jokes section. It all happened on our first night dinner at BBQ Chicken. To summarise, waiting time simply too long. Close to an hour of waiting for our orders to arrive, and we reminded the staff and manager at least once in between. People who have arrived later than us, already finished their meal (YES, its THAT LONG). Finally, our da jie snapped. First time ever i witnessed she scolding the staff and manager together. I shouldn't go into the heated words she used, key sentence was "I want to speak to your manager." Because everything that didn't go our way for the rest of the chalet, we kept saying "I think we better speak to the manager." Then our da jie will chase us for the jokes we made about her. But i agree with her when she said she is helping us.

果然有大姐风范. Just that this is the first time i was involved in such a situation. Oh ya and the staff gave us free soft drinks as a token of apology for the long waiting time. 已经这么生气了还喝汽水 ...

Guess i'm really lucky to know this bunch of friends in SIM, recalling the times when we overdid group projects and worked till 3 am in the morning together, this late because we are studying part time, I already started to miss those days already. Hope all of us are all successful in our respective careers, now that our studies are over, and most importantly, don't snatch each other's rice bowl !

Start of a busy week

A busy week kicked off today, with my company's annual shutdown taking place. Basically almost everything that we could not afford to shut down or even have down time during normal operating days, are all turned off for 2 days to do some form of maintenance. And of course, all unrelated personnel of the company gets 2 days off from work, well, not exactly "off", more of "force you to take leave", got deduct annual leave. So the company was unusually quiet today, with only little people needing to come to work today. Yet when i see some of them in the company today, i get questions like:

"Eh, 你今天也要来啊?" or "你今天来做什么?"

=.= Hey dude, you obviously don't know the reason why we have this annual shutdown. And oh ya, they call it annual, i have been here for 2 years and this is my first ..

First time i witness vendors from all over the island working together in our server room, HP, IBM, Commserv, just to name a few. Poor fusen was still working when i left at 10pm, one of the few times when i spent more than 12 hours working in one day . Dinner was pizza hut, was originally planning to leave at ard 6+ pm, when my boss saw me and say "Robin, 我晚上有叫 pizza". Double =.=" Got the message loud and clear. Which is why i stayed till 10. A case of 世上没有免费的 ... pizza ?

Thurs going for 2nd round, lets just pray everything goes smoothly. Was on top form for the 1st round, kinda expected to be called for 2nd. Not bragging, but there are lots of people ard who can't even say a complete sentence and still landed a decent job. I kinda blowed the boss away with my answers to his stack of case study questions. Feel more tensed when you see your interviewer bringing a stack of papers and asking you questions from them. You just know it's going to be a long session. It was a IQ and EQ test i guess, mostly to test your response and ability to tackle difficult situations. My guardian angels please look after me ~

Fri to Sun - Downtown East Chalet. I'm sure its going to be real fun, just like always. And tiring too. Dunno why the 5 people combination works perfectly, i guess we all fits each other in the areas the other party is short of. Hopefully something like the "word-guessing" game like we played at the sentosa chalet more than a year ago will be great. I looked back at the video we used the camera to secretly record the actions the gals did to make us guess the 成语, man i swear no one can ever guess the correct answer ..

F1 Saturday 27-09-2008

Last Sat was F1 Day, thanks to Alex's lobang, was able to get the tickets at a reasonable price. It was the first ever night race in F1's history, and also Singapore's first ever F1 - definitely Singapore history in the making. Overall feedback of the race: maybe it is only the qualifiers, and my seat is near a bend of the course, speed wasn't there, the gap between each car is way too much, not many great incidents happened, k i shouldn't get started on the Ferrari case on sunday, most of you should know what happened to the poor lad, food was EXPENSIVE, then again you'll never get another chance to sell a hot dog with steamed bun for $8 !

Finally the opening of my blog, i know there's been an awful delay, was supposed to start doing it in august, but *ahem* "due to unforseen circumstances" ... well at least here we are!

Why this blog? well mainly i hope to put these few things up using this blog:
1) Interesting happenings, my thoughts and feelings in everyday life
2) Share some old photos, bring back some old memories
3) Lastly, once i begin on my digital keyboard, my 自弹自唱 pieces

Will be adding the little bits here and there to complete this blog every now and then ~
